Janet discovered yoga in Thailand in 2007, whilst living in a treehouse in a tiny village up North called Pai. This was the beginning of a huge journey of self- enquiry, growth and transformation.
Since then she has travelled extensively around India, South East Asia & Indonesia, fascinated with the vibrant culture, and spirituality of the East. She has completed numerous courses, workshops & retreats on Meditation, Reiki, massage & yoga.
Her passion for food , people and travel, led her to become an overland guide for 7 years, where she took groups of international travelers around her beloved continent, connecting both others’ and herself with the heartbeat of Africa
The yoga mat was always attached to the backpack, but eventually her thirst for more knowledge and desire to be grounded in one place, brought her back to Cape Town. She completed her Yoga Teacher training with internationally acclaimed teacher, Viktor van der Kleij, and so a new journey began. Janet had the privilege of assisting Viktor run his ashram in the Knysna forest for 6 months whilst continuing to expand her knowledge of Yoga, Pranayama (breathwork) , Kirtan (devotional singing) and sustainable living.
She now teaches regular classes and runs ‘Beginner Yoga workshops’ from her base in Muizenberg. Her classes focus on body alignment & conscious breathing, and include chanting, meditation and deep relaxation. Janet has been facilitating retreats with Alida Haarhoff for the last 3 years. She takes great pleasure in preparing delicious vegetarian meals and being part of holding a sacred space for others’ to be inspired and receive healing. Drumming is also a huge passion of Janet’s and she facilitates energizing drumming circles.
Her vision for the future is to build an eco- friendly Treehouse Retreat, providing a nurturing sanctuary for locals & international visitors to enjoy spiritual retreats, workshops & festivals, and delve deeper into understanding & healing themselves, in the stillness of nature.
My yoga practice has become a way of life; it grounds me, and brings me back towards myself.
